The art of drawing cartoon

Cartoons have always been the favorite type of movie for the little ones, and even adults find them very funny and entertaining. However, behind the well portrayed characters there is a team of artists that draws the cartoons and brings the characters to life.

The art of drawing cartoon is not a simple one, but it isn’t the most difficult either. All you need to keep in mind is that the end result needs to be a nice, flowing movement of the character. So, practice makes perfect. To practice you need two things. Lots and lots of those small notebooks, and a pencil. The notebooks will be used as the drawing environment, so make sure to buy ones with plain white paper. Start drawing a scene, where the main character of our cartoon is walking at a normal pace. You have to draw each frame, so for a second of action you need to draw between 18 and 25 frames, the ideal being over that, but for the beginning that rate is more than decent. Don’t worry about any other issues, just draw a stickman that walks. When you get this right, you can start drawing proper characters, in full color.

The art of drawing cartoon does not need to impress the art critique because the main goal of your work is to entertain people and only after that should you focus on other aspects, like the way your character looks.

Do remember that it is very important to stick to the same colors and proportions for your characters for each frame if you want the end result to look good. In fact, there are computer programs that you can use to adjust these little issues, since no one can draw the exact same character twice, there will be some kind of mine difference which will be more obvious when the full speed footage will be ready.
